Secrets at the End of the World

Like many fans of FromSoftware, my last two days have been heavily centered around Souls games, but especially the new Dark Souls III DLC. It’s been a fun and interesting experience so far, and it shows no signs of losing momentum, but my attention was drawn to a troublesome little item that turned out to be surprisingly worthy of the distraction. Since I noticed some other articles where the writers were unable to find out how to get to the item, as well, I figured I’d put some time into finding out more about it.

An all-too-familiar sight? Then you’ve come to the right place!

It’s not too bad to get to, actually, but it does require some dangerous footwork through a small horde of Murkmen.

The fountain should be easy to recognize as you’re passing through. We need to go through the door up this slope first.

Inside is where the real fun starts. In this building, a Murkman sorcerer upstairs will continuously summon more Murkmen, which will quickly overwhelm you. However, there are secrets and loot for the persistent adventurer. There’s not much use in trying to kill the Murkmen right now, so run through the building towards the item in the furthest room.

Then, instead of simply grabbing the treasure (the Murky Longstaff, for those who are curious) and running away, make note of this conspicuous archway on the left side wall of the back room. A closer examination reveals it to be an illusion.

At the top of the stairs, a couple more Murkmen will appear, but the worst of the swarm is behind you.

In the room ahead, you’ll find the Murkman sorcerer that’s causing your summoning woes downstairs. Be careful, though; it can still summon a whole swarm of Murkmen up here as well, so make sure to kill it right away. I believe that, at this point, you could either go back and wipe out the remaining Murkmen downstairs and behind you or press onward into the next room. The Murkmen behind you should all die permanently, even though there are some more to come.

The furniture did not survive the cleaning process, but all the soggy ghosts are gone. I don’t think the Ghostbusters could have done much better.

Finally, we’ve reached the arched walkway that you can just barely see from the ground below. There are some more Murkmen here, of course, but they’re of little consequence. There’s an Ember in the back corner of this room, as well, if I recall correctly.

Out on the wooden scaffolding, you can easily spot your reward on the balcony below. Drop down, claim your shiny +3 Covetous Silver Serpent Ring, and have fun with your extra souls. Thank you for reading and good luck with your adventures!

P.S. for anyone still wondering about the Dark Souls 3 crab story that I was working on: I still have the draft going, but I feel like I wasted too much time and lost what I was going for.
